Before the cast: check the task and bait

Look at the current objective before choosing a fishing spot. If it names Normal Bait, Small Burrito Bait or another item, check the bait you are using first. The tutorial demonstrates distinct bait tasks, so repeatedly casting with the wrong setup can leave the objective unchanged.

1. Equip your fishing rod.
2. Check any bait named by the active task.
3. Face the water with enough room nearby to deal with the landed fish.

Cast, wait and reel

Start the cast when the rod prompt appears. Use the cast’s charge indicator, then release the input to send the line out. Once the line is in the water, wait for a bite rather than treating the waiting stage as a failed cast.

1. Begin the cast and release when ready.
2. Wait until the bite changes the on-screen prompt.
3. Use the reeling input until the catch lands. Follow the prompt to hold the input or press it repeatedly.

A live fish still needs attention

After landing a fish, the opening tutorial asks you to drop it and defeat it on land. The official No Escape! objective specifically involves stopping a live catch before it reaches deep water. Stay focused on that fish instead of immediately casting another line.

1. Drop the catch using its on-screen action.
2. Use the available attack action to defeat it.
3. Collect the catch and choose its next use: food, a task or a sale.

Find the stage that is holding you up

When progress stops, match the visible task to the next action instead of buying a different rod immediately.

1. Still waiting for a bite: leave the line out and watch for the reeling prompt.
2. A fish has landed but the task remains: check for the drop or defeat step.
3. The fish is defeated but the tutorial remains: look for a selling objective.
4. A bait task has not cleared: check that the named bait was used for that catch.
